Former UFC champion Cris Cyborg has signed with rival promotion Bellator in just what the company describes as”the most significant deal in women’s MMA background”.
34, brazilian-American Cyborg, is the only fighter to guard the title that is featherweight and was UFC featherweight champion for 517 days.
By beating Felicia Spencer to end with seven wins and one loss she completed her UFC profession.
Her defeat with Amanda Nunes last year ended a streak.
“I’ve worked with hundreds of athletes over my 30-plus decades of promoting combat sports, however there’s no-one very like Cyborg,” said Bellator president Scott Coker, who had formerly worked with Cyborg at the Strikeforce promotion.
“Cyborg is the most prominent female fighter in the history of this sport and she will be an ideal fit here in Bellator.”
Cyborg will have the opportunity to win a title having held straps at Strikeforce, Invicta and UFC.
“You guys know I have a whole great deal of girls I want to fight at 145lbs and this usually means that you’re going to have a great deal of fights per year and I am quite happy about this,” she said.
“My Aim is to be the sole female fighter to hold four different major titles in the Exact Same branch”
